Cassandra provides fantastic write- and very good read-throughputs (beating most popular competitors), only comparable to HBase. Deciding between the two is mostly a matter of personal preference. If you don’t want the whole Hadoop stack with all its moving parts and increased architectural complexity, choose Cassandra, if Hadoop is fine, HBase may be the better integrated fit.
