Using Ubuntu 9.10, the modem usb to serial driver(qcserial) should be loaded already...

1. First of all, you need to get modem firmware from Windows 7... should be in c:\QUALCOMM\QDLService\Packages
2. sudo apt-get install wvdial build-essential
3. get gobi_loader and make
4. sudo ./gobi_loader /dev/ttyUSB0 QUALCOMM/QDLService/Packages/2
5. sudo wvdialconf
6. modify /etc/wvdial.conf
8. sudo wvdial, you will get IP address and DNS, get online
